Detan's Notes - Such a new year

For the Week Ending on Jan 10, 2021
It's 2021 and does it count if I still say "Happy New Year" on the 10th day of the year? It's the first week note of the year and this will go as far back as 3 weeks' worth of recap and retrospective. Let's go!
Week 1 of the year and work is gradually picking up. Incredibly proud of what the team achieved last year and looking forward to improving this year. Things that have happened so far:
The year resumed with a deadline due 10 days into the year. Long overdue delivery but nothing to worry about so far.
The product team is redefining how we create product OKRs separate from delivery teams. This makes me curious about how other organizations set shared and individual OKRs for product teams and engineering teams to ensure ownership and collaboration. Care to share as a reply comment below?
Beginning to think more and more about how to generalize (but not over-generalize) and plan for custom deliveries of infrastructure-related changes.
While delivery is bursting through, hoping that this year I can continue to provide more business and external content as to why x is more important than y and also why x is not important right now. I'm also hoping to experiment and try more new things with work.
As a pilot/trial event for Savvy Within, I ran a vision board session for a small group of career professionals last week and whew! it was enlightening and fun. Not sure why we thought starting a vision board session at 10 pm EST was a smart idea but hey! we did it, they liked it and we went to bed at 2 am EST. With social distancing and things being virtual/remote now, we had to rely on our design skills on a collaborative board. A traditional vision board session will have people bring cutouts and make physical boards however, we went digital this time.
It was quite difficult to have them use the design tool as fast and efficiently as I would, considering that I am quite a good average in my design skills. I will probably consider another session where people design physical boards with cut-outs in their own space even if we do it and discuss it on a call while they do it.
But hey! first of many more group sessions in the bag for Savvy Within career professionals! Join our community if you haven't - we have goodies coming soon and we are in this together!
Also, a new podcast episode was released over the holidays. Check out the podcast episode here if you're interested in "hard work vs smart work" through the eyes of a cybersecurity consultant in Nigeria.
Remember those content packs for the Ontario Ministry of Education which we were matching with supplementary VR content for Scolish, yeah? they went live for three (3) subjects at the end of December. You can check out the VR content packs and download them here for free.
Welcome to an alternate reality! 8-O
The exercise made me realize how inadequate VR content is for the actual educational curriculum. This meant I started looking into how to build our own VR (and other supplementary) educational content as quickly as possible. To be candid, at this point I will like to connect with anyone with a background in child education or pedagogy. Kindly introduce me to them if you know any.
What is month one of twenty twenty one looking like? Are we ready to win?
